2012 Chili Cook-off winners!

The lower level of Brown's Chapel filled with hungry chili tasters on Saturday, January 28 for Holy Trinity Parish's annual event. Nine chilies were entered and the competition was fierce. Each chili had its own unique flavor with secret spices and ingredients. At the end of the evening the votes were in and the top three entries took to the winner's circle. Mission of Mercy

Bishop Tony and Florida Broussard, one of our parishioners, are joining the Medical Mission of Mercy USA to the Philippines in February. They will be meeting with the local International Justice Mission office as well as journeying to rural areas to assist in providing medical services to the people of the boroughs. They also will be taking infant clothing, reading glasses, and other needed goods into some of the rural areas.

Parish Christmas Dinner
and Auction

It's not Christmas at Holy Trinity until parishioners dress up in their finest and attend the annual Christmas dinner. After dinner and dessert, parishioners participate in a spirited auction. This year parishioners brought an amazing array of items, and bidding was furious. Parishioner Jim served as auctioneer, a role he has mastered over the years.  He has a way of enticing everyone to participate in the excitement of making a winning bid, all to benefit the church and its charitable activities.

Children's Christmas
Choir Mass

Children of Holy Trinity sang Christmas music for the parishioners at mass on Dec 4, 2011. Afterward everyone joined in a Christmas brunch and Santa showed up to surprise the children.

Holy Trinity is moving.  After worshiping for 20 years at Brown’s Chapel, in the spring the parish will be moving to a new facility in Herndon, not far from the current location.  The new building is perfectly suited for the parish, located in a business park with other churches, schools, and charitable community organizations.  The new site will allow 24/7 access to both the sanctuary and meeting space.  After packing up the altar, icons, and other worship items after mass for 20 years, parishioners are looking forward to a more permanent worship space.

Thirty-eight members of CACINA (bishops, clergy, and lay people) gathered to conduct the business of the national church. The assembly, a joint session of the College of Bishops and the House of Delegates, focused this year on revising the Canons, selecting a national charity, and standardizing web designs. They also learned about ministering to the elderly and to those who are dying. The Standing Committee on Vocations met with applicants who are seeking candidacy to the clergy.
